for many years i took many pictures, first in a traditional way and now since a couple of years with digital camera' s. the pictures from a number of years ago haven been collected in albums and are therefore easy to find. the digital pictures are even more easy to find. the rest of the pictures is somewhere in boxes, envelopes and other places. the selection on the website is made from pictures in the albums and the collection of digital pictures.
it is a random collection without special characteristics. looking at pictures memories are coming back: people, places, cities, landscapes, smells and food. some people passed away, others we have not heard of for a long time and again others we see regularly. i feel that meeting the people i met in the way i met them in the places where i met them played an important role in my life and the development of my ideas and thinking: meeting other people in the same period would have influenced my ideas and thinking. it can only be speculation to wonder what would have been different, in what way and to what effect.
my work is the outcome of the life i live, of the dialogues with all the people i met, talked to, was inspired by, enjoyed meeting or got angry with. it is strange to look back and try to understand patterns in the development of ideas and thinking, looking for logical and easy to understand lines, so to speak. it would be so easy to understand what one did when one did it, when there would be patterns and logic and rules. but i guess that that is just to keep control on the way one lives, knowing that that control is only part of the game.
there is so much happening nowadays, that influences severely our way of living, that nobody can predict how the future will look like. and at the same time life goes on. whatever happens, one has to eat and to sleep. and whatever happens others are deeply involved in the lives of all the others.
