the wheather is terrible on this moment, heavy rain and heavy thunder. it has been like this allready for a number of days and it is strange that there is so much water left above. my grandfather used to that whatever is falling today does not fall tomorrow, but it seems that the flow of water is endless.
this afternoon it was dry and sunny and the skies above the river were gorgeous: blue with great clouds and pleasant temperatures. the pictures i made from the river look good. i worked on the fisherman, in particular on details of the transport of coming friday.
the mobile riwal crane will be available friday morning and the bonn & mees sheerlegs in the afternoon. with r and some friends we will join the crew on the sheerlegs and follow the fisherman to the center of the city, so to speak on the riverside.
the news mentioned that aaron betsky will get a new position and leave the nai, the dutch architectural institute in our street. there is a lot of architecture in rotterdam. many tourists from all over te world visit rotterdam to "enjoy" the architecture. architecture might however have two sides. tourists see one side, inhabitants another. i grew up in team-10 and ciam areas and found them rather boring. in the beginning of the 90' s i was in the restaurant of the "fernsehturm" in berlin. the restaurant on top of the tower turns around in one hour, 250 meters bove berlin. i could see western berlin but also eastern and saw the same kind of areas where i grew up. i visited the architectural institute in rotterdam several times but each time i felt on top of the fernsehturm: surprised that the gap between the intentions and the works of architects could be so gigantic. and astonished that their words and their work were so different
