last sunday it was our plan to join the bonn & mees sheerlegs with the fisherman to his future place. the wheater forecast was nice but during the day the wheather changed. instead nice sunny weather, a strong wind came up. the staff of the world port festival cancelled all activities, sent visitors home and forbade any further action on the water.
the sheerlegs were not allowed to sail. our guests however were arriving and our boat with 150 people (who made the fisherman possible) was on his way. a quick decision was made: the ceremony, we had in mind, went on, but without the fisherman: the donation to the city of rotterdam had to continue. we learnt this less then 30 minutes before visitors and press came to the place thinking that everything proceded as planned. the fisherman would come later.
two days later, around 9 o' clock in the morning the fisherman was put on his place. the weather was great and the whole operation took less then 30 minutes. for the coming years the fisherman will be clearly visible on the "charloisse hoofd" in the south of rotterdam. the project was possible because of the enthusiasm and energy of hundreds of students of professional schools and even more non-students working for companies, municipal departments and other institutions.
