many websites on the internet present pictures of yellow ducks, rubber ducks and duckies. some are small, some are big, some are yellow. all are different.
i enjoyed reading the stories about a big yellow duck that attacked tokyo harbour and was defeated by the japanese navy; the story about the big inflatable duck on top of the san jose children' s museum, the big duck that was used to sell ducks and eggs and seems to be very famous: see for
example: www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/NYFLAduck.html.
but also have a look at: www.badeendwinkel.nl/shop/catalog/
and: www.duckplanet.com/ducklinks_main.html
there are many more special ducks. i heard about a kind of "housing duck" a summer cottage built in the shape of a duck and i found many pictures on google, just underp ictures and yellow duck, huge duck or big duck
it is inspiring to see how many people are collecting "ducks" in many shapes, colours and models and how large the collections are. the ducks are just there, without any history. i have not found any books. emails to a number of toy museums have not been answered. one museum suggested to check the history of tin toys. i know that there are metal ducks, covered with some kind of fabric, but i guess that they are not meant for water, with their little wheels.
ducks are special and fun to see. it is nice to see on http://interconnected.org/matt/culture/icon_01.html
that the rubber duck is considered to be a cultural icon of the 20 th century.
on the same website the globe is mentioned as another cultural icon.
