time to draw again

time to start drawing again. i loved drawing and drew a lot. my drawings were even part of a group show in the boymans museum when i was 11. i had no idea at that time that i would ever become an artist and architect. there were no artists or architects in my family as far as i knew.
had no examples. later i learnt that we had a miss world in the family and some jazz musicians and even someone who owned the building in rotterdam that was once the highest in europe.

it took time to get used to the idea of being an artist. it took to get used to work alone, to be different, to be independent and remain so. the venster gallery in rotterdam was importan. many people, including artists from all over the world attended the openings.

i assisted with a vito acconci installation during a couple of days. new york in 1981 was good, seeing andy warhol and the broken kilometer. a trip to california at the end of the 80' s was important, meeting robert irwin, david ireland and james turell. spending a number of days with dennis oppenheim in finland was inspiring, just like a weekend with christo and jeanne claude in sweden. attending yövind fahlström installations in paris and during the documenta was good as well.

but that is not all. there was much more. and more is still coming. othrs are essential for my work. i need them for their energy, for their inspiration, for their challenges, or just to have fun. time to draw again. i have to get paper and a pen and start drawing again, not in my mind but in reality.
