for almost 20 years i have been dreaming and thinking about a trip around the world. a trip where some "things" sail from one harbour to antother and collect signatures and names from those hwo happen to be there but also provide an opportunity to be photographed.
i have thought of those two german artists that were at almost every opening and had themselves photographed everytime they were "somewhere". the books with those pictures from openings "everywhere" were their artworks. i also had to think of "killroy was here".
instead of persons i thought of objects. i had huge yellow bathing ducks in mind but felt until now that they might be good but that possibly other ideas could be better. i was not convinced that the bathing ducks were the ultimate objects to float around the world.
recently i photgraphed the waters near vlissingen. in the near future i plan to go to antwerpen and dunkerque to make more pictures. i am not yet convinced what route to take, what cities to visit and what waters to photograph, but the channel should be part of the voyage, the strait of gibraltar, the bosporus and the suez canal. i might go alone, i might travel with others and the whole journey might take many years, but it started today again and one day the trip will take me to shanghai and hawaii and san fransisco and the panama canal, with ducks or something else
