most of my work is building oriented, architecture oriented, allthough i graduated as a building engineer and urban planner, enough to get a license as an architect here in the netherlands. during my studies it seemed urban design hardly existed. i graduated on a studies comparing different lay-out in the same area and the wellbeing of the inhabitants of those parts of that area.
after my studies in the netherlands i moved to finland to another university environment. my activities there were again rather science oriented and hardly involved any artistic issues. i rebuilt some old citroen 2cv' s and designed my own furniture, which was published and even sold.
later i got interested in art. at the end of the seventies i frequented the vensdter gallery in rotterdam very often and got to know many people. their ideas and plans certrainly influenced me. the openings at the venster gallery drew many international visitors, representing many galleries in many cities.
besides hat i often visited galleries in antwerpen and later, thanks to a.o. sharon avery-fahlstrom, learnt much about the artworld in general and in new york in particular. vistis to berlin and san fransisco completed my basic orientation.
in general i am rather curious, not afraid to experiment and not limited by any boundaries. i call myself an artist, allthough having a license as an architect. i find the architectural world in general too much client oriented and hardly open for non-client oriented work, non-functional projects and other activities that might be necessary from the point of view from an artist.
i am independent. i am not for sale. i do not work for clients, don 't intend to do so and personally choose the people i want to work with. the projects i do are mine, allthough i enjoy working with others and hope to do so for many years.
i like to develop ideas, try to get these realised and doing so new ideas are developed. the active proces of generating ideas, testing, promoting and trying to get these to realisation is another basic issue in my work. in short this means that each project is new, based on a different concept, involving new locations, new participants and new challenges.
i do not want to repeat myself and continuously challenge my possiblities. i am not interested in teaching or presentations, unless necessary as part of the project involved. i believe in dialogues, not in one-way traffic.
