The work of many people inspired me. Without their work and thoughts, my work would be completely different. I learnt from their works.
I was inspired by their thoughts , their way of living and thinking. It is important to be inspired by others, just as it is important to remain independent. For me inspiration is essential to check my own ideas, to load my batteries so to speak and to remain aware of what i am doing and why i am doing what i am doing. I feel that inspiration should be inspiration and not become dogma.

- Recent places
The pictures in the series of recent places were made between summer 2003 and now, september 2006. I did not travel much in that period: France, Germany and Finland.
I was and still am interested in waterways. I am intrigued by the possibility to travel from Rotterdam over water to the Black Sea along the Rhine, the Rhine-Donau canal, the Donau and from there along a.o. the Volga through Russia to Saint Petersburg and then over the Baltic Sea back to Rotterdam.
Therefore I made a number of pictures from the Rhine and the Main, from the Weser and the Elbe in Northern Germany, the searoute from Travemünde to Helsinki and Southern Finland. I intend to make more pictures in the near future.
The water will play an important role in one of my future project: 1+3 Discovery. Besides the water, I am fascinated by the city of Berlin. I have been there many times and dream of a project in the center of Berlin, near the Museuminsel or even on the Museuminsel. Therefore the Berlin pictures are included.

- Food
Some things are essential in life: good company, good food and good sleep. Food should be tasty, fresh and pleasant to cook and to eat. Fortunately there are excellent BBC cooking programs that show what to buy and how to cook.
Besides that there are lots of fascinating cookbooks. I prefer cooking books with basic issues: Elisabeth David, Sophie Grigson, Gordon Ramsay for example. I am not so much interested in all kinds of tricks and all kinds of experiments. For me a well prepared piece of meat or fish, just well done with some fresh vegetables is sufficient.
Here where I live it is possible to get ingredients from almost all over the world and fortunately there is a biological market once a week with superb fresh meat. Our food is often quite simple but with the right kind of fresh ingredients that is no problem at all.
